Photos from the Trail

For those of you who prefer to hike into the unknown, you might want to skip these photos. For others who would like to know a bit more about the scenery and ambiance before making a decision, then this is for you. I have divided them into three sections of which this is the first chronologically.

The Trail
Part I - Fethiye to Kalkan
Part II - Kalkan to Demre
Part III - Demre to Geyikbayiri

Other subjects
Photos - Campsites
Photos - Flowers
Photos - Petra

Bear in mind that all these photos were taken between mid-March and mid-April. It might look somewhat different in autumn after the summer heat, or indeed in winter when some higher sections could be under snow.

  2. Hi Yann. I’m glad it was of some use. I’m a little embarrassed that it’s still not completely finished over a year later.
There are of course several possible answers.
    • If you are eventually intending to walk the whole trail in 5 days sections then I’d recommend starting in Fethiye and doing the first (fairly rugged) five days.
    • However if you just want a good five day section then you need to think about the logistics of how you would get to the start and away from the end. Not everywhere is that accessible.
    • One suggestion would be to walk the last stage from Çıralı village (near Olympos ruins and on a lovely beach) to the trail end. This is a fine section with some good mountain scenery. However it’s also the part with the most up and down though there are no really technically difficult sections (trekking poles advised). The advantage of this is that it leaves you closest to Antalya and onward transport options.
    • However if your interest lies more in the ancient ruins then a section starting in Kaş and ending in Finike might be good. Transport options in both. However the section over Finike mountain is a decent climb, involves camping and some route finding skills at times.
    • A final alternative would be the five days before Kaş (which is a lovely little town).

I hope you find something suitable and have a great trip!
